50 students from various branches of RVCE participated in 6 day workshop of 2 hours modules each day.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (IPR) AWARENESS WORKSHOP

A one day IPR awareness Workshop was conducted for the faculty and students of RVCE with the able support of Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology(KSCST), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Mr. P R Dhanvantri, Nodal Officer in Patent Information Cell, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Bangalore (The cell was started in 2005 with the objective of creating awareness about IPR and to assist in filing application for IPR) 

Resource person: Mr J Abhayan is, at present, Head, Legal Cell, BIOCON Limited, Bangalore. He is an IPR professional, having worked with leading IP firms like DePenning and DePenning, Chennai and K&S Partners, New Delhi.

Abhayan have more than 12 years of relevant experience in intellectual property law and enforcement and has worked with leading IP lawfirms in the country, such as DePenning & DePenning in Chennai and KnS Partners in New Delhi and Bangalore. Abhayan set up the Bangalore office of KnS Partners in Bangalore and obtained specialised practice in IPR due diligence, IP issues in technology transfer and licensing, anti-counterfeiting, software piracy, character merchandising, geographical indications, various copyright aspects of the internet, music and entertainment industry.

In 2005 Abhayan joined Biocon Limited, India’s premier biotechnology and biopharmaceutical company. He is the Group Head-Legal of Biocon Group companies, responsible for the overall legal functions, including contacts management and negotiation, licensing, technology transfer, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, prosecution and enforcement of trade marks, anti-counterfeiting, litigation and statutory compliance.

Abhayan did his studies in Kerala and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Cost Accounting and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from University of Kerala.
